Welsh Closed Championships 2023
(including Welsh Women’s Championship and Welsh U21 Championship)
All participants in this Championship must be registered members of the WCU and also registered with FIDE as Welsh at the time of entry and also Welsh qualified in at least one of the following ways:
Birth in Wales
Child of a person who was born in Wales
Spouse of a person who was born in Wales
Any previous winner of the Welsh Championship
Ten years consecutive residence in Wales at any time prior to the Championship.
Residence in Wales for at least two years immediately prior to the Championship.
Competing in the 2018, 2019 or 2022 Championship.
IN ADDITION, ALL PLAYERS MUST BE QUALIFIED IN AT LEAST ONE OF THE FOLLOWING WAYS:
WCU rating of 1950 or above on January 2023 WCU rating list
FIDE rating of 1850 or above on any FIDE list published in January 2023, February 2023, March 2023 or April 2023
Aged under 18 on 1st January 2023 with a WCU rating of 1800 or above on January 2023 rating list
Aged under 18 on 1st January 2023 with a FIDE rating of 1750 or above on any FIDE list published in January 2023,
Players who achieved 4 points or more in the 2022 Welsh Championship
Players who achieved 4½ points or more in the 2022 Welsh Open/Major Championship
A previous winner of the Welsh Closed Championship or Welsh Ladies Championship
February 2023, March 2023 or April 2023
