The guidlines on setting up school chess clubs in both English and Welsh can now be found here. The 2017 Welsh Junior Championships were held at Cathedral School, Cardiff, on 4-5 March, 2017. Ben Chooyin won the under 16s, Ifan Rathbone-Jones the under 13s, Ellison Smith the under 11s, and Sridatta Dantu the under 9s. […] At the EPSCA zonal round played on Saturday 25 February at QEH, Bristol, The Dell emerged victorious in both the under 11 and under 9 sections. […] On 22nd February, a day before his 13th birthday, Welsh Junior Chirag Guha hit a grading of 2000. […] Congratulations to Harri Gilbert, winner of the beginners rapidplay section at the West of England Championships, held on 18-19 February. Further success for Wales came from Harrison Postans, runner-up in the U12 Challengers. […] The Annual individual junior championships for Cardiff and the Vale schoolchildren took place at Cardiff City Council Offices on 12th February. For many years the Championships have been supported by Cardiff City Council, allowing the use of the prestigious venue. This event is now seen as one of the highlights of the chess calendar. […] At the West Region regional finals of the ECF Team Challenge, held at Bristol Grammar on Monday 6 February, Chepstow School came within half a point of qualifying for the finals. […] The 2017 Welsh Junior Championships were held at The Grange, Monmouth, on 4-5 February, 2017. Anlan Qui won the under 14s, Hiya Ray the under 12s, Daniel Chung the under 10s, and Tom Davies the under 8s. […] The Chapter, Market Road, Canton, Cardiff, CF51QE, have agreed to show “The Queen of Katwe” over Half-Term. This is a lovely film about a 10 year old girl in rural Uganda who is introduced to chess and finds her life is changed forever. It is an incredibly moving and inspirational true story. […] The Girls’ Championships were held at their usual venue of Inglefield House, prep school for Monmouth Girls’ School. Every year, the facilities there seem to be bigger and better, and we are grateful to the headmistress for letting us use the hall and numerous classrooms to accommodate the players and provide space for the parents […] |
