Another big success for Castell Nedd Chess Club! Last week, ghosts and ghouls took to the chessboards for the club’s annual pizza night, this time with a Halloween theme. Throughout the evening, kids enjoyed both chess and themed activities, playing “Splat the Spider” and tossing hoops onto witches’ hats between games. The room was decorated to match the spooky atmosphere, creating a fun and engaging environment that encouraged kids to bond with each other.
The Halloween theme proved a hit with the young players, who, between rounds of chess, eagerly lined up to see if they could hit the bullseye with a spider. Events like this don’t just add fun; they also give our players a chance to make friends and engage in a new community. Parents and children alike were enthusiastic, with one parent saying, “Big thank you to all at Castell Nedd Chess Club for putting on this event. Cae had a wonderful time!” .
In addition to the regulars, three new participants joined us for the night, brought along by a member from Crymlyn School, which is considering entering a team in the new league starting in January. More inter-school involvement is fantastic, as it not only builds excitement but also fosters friendly competition and introduces new kids to chess.
Special thanks go to Steven Smith and Dale Westcott, who arrived early to prepare the room, as well as to everyone who helped clean up at the end of the night. These events wouldn’t be possible without such dedicated volunteers, and we’re excited to continue building connections within the local community.
We’re already looking forward to our next event and hope that the Halloween pizza night will return for a third year in 2025!
