Chepstow School put in an outstanding performance in the West Country Region heat of the ECF Junior Team Challenge, winning 16 game points out of a possible 16.
The team of Madeleine Smith, Neil Stevenson, Harrison Postans and Steffan Griffiths will now play in the ECF Junior Team finals, to be held at Hertford College, Oxford, on Monday 16 April. Chepstow came fourth last year, and will be hoping to get in the medals this time.
In the heat played at Bristol Grammar School on the afternoon of Monday 12 March, Chepstow began by playing Torquay Grammar A. The matched, played with a time control of 10 minutes plus 5 second increment, appeared finely balanced. However, Neil managed to swindle his opponent, and his team mates all went on to win, to get the team off to a great start. Three further 4-0 wins followed, against Hereford Cathedral School, Torquay B and Clifton High.
It has been a great year for Chepstow School, which is also through to the finals of the ECF Team Problem-Solving Championships and the ECF Team Challenge.
On Monday 19 March, Chepstow hosts St John’s, Cardiff, in the regional final of the ECF Under 19 Open. This match guarantees a place for a Welsh team in the finals of this competition.
