A team from Chepstow has won the 2017 Yes2Chess title after beating Stora Hammars Skola from Hollvoken, near Malmo, in the final held at the London Chess Classic. The Chepstow side that won the match 7.5 to 2.5 were given the opportunity to play due to the success of the players at last summer’s ECF Under 11 Open. Lining up against an under 12s side from Sweden were three players that are now at Chepstow School – Harrison Postans, Steffan Griffiths and Thomas Davies – plus two from The Dell, Oliver Sapsford and Nia Rathkey.
The Chepstow players thoroughly enjoyed the finals, which were played in the auditorium, on the stage used by elite grandmasters. They played two games against their opposite number, under a time control of 50 minutes plus 10 seconds per move, and had their moves projected on a large screen and streamed live on the internet.
