Entries are now open for the On-line Championship for Welsh Secondary School players. To enter, simply send an e-mail to: welshsecondarychess@gmail.com The deadline for entries is Friday 18 October. This competition aims to attract entries from everyone in years 7 to 13 that is keen to play the game. That includes those that have no connection with the WCU; those that have played in the occasional WCU competition; and those that represent Wales on a regular basis. Note that all players in year 7 and above that are listed on the WCU rapidplay ratings are eligible, even if they go to secondary schools outside Wales.
Those playing in the competition will play all their games at home, over the internet. The format will be a Swiss. One round will be played per week, running from after the October half-term until Easter. There will be a break for Christmas and for the Lent half-term. The time control will be 15 minutes, or similar. A trophy will go to the best placed player in each school, and a plate to the overall winner. Games will not be graded.
The WCU is very grateful for sponsorship by Cardiff-headquartered multinational semiconductor company IQE.
