At the National Youth Chess Association Championships held at Madeley, Telford, on 5 November, South Wales netted third place in both the under 12s and the under 16s sections.
The under 12 team-of-twelve scored 19 out of a possible 36 in the three-round jamboree, just 1.5 points behind Warwick. Sussex came first with an impressive 28.5, while Cheshire&North Wales scored 13.5 and the Wiral 8.5. Meanwhile, in the under 16 team-of-eight, South Wales scored 7.5 out of a possible 24 in their three-round jamboree. Sussex came first with an impressive 19.5, while Cheshire&North Wales scored 15 and the Warwickshire 6.
The under 12 team: Susanna Fraser, Hiya Ray, Neil Stevenson, Madeleine Smith, Rishi Choudhuri, Daniel Chung, Harrison Postans, Rhys Matthews, Joel Chung, Tycho Twohig, Steffan Griffiths and Oliver Sapsford.
The under 16 team: Karanvir Lutchman-Singh, Hugo Fowler, James Evans, David McIntosh, George Smith, Rachel McIntosh, Duncan MacDonald, Aishwarya Lutchman-Singh and Daniel Jaberansari.
